How to Rosin a Bow?

First, you must notice that a bow without rosin will produce virtually no sound when it’s drawn across the strings of an instrument. Here are some important simple tips:

  1. Grab your rosin block and scratch it to bring rosin powder to the top.
  2. Take your tightened bow (don’t be afraid to tighten it a little more than normal) and start putting rosin on the bow hair.
  3. Test to see how much rosin is on the bow by carefully taking the back of your finger and testing it like you did before, but don’t do this often.
  4. After you have enough rosin on the bow, you have to reapply it every 60 minutes of practice.
